We are pleased to announce that the club has a new venue: Frankville, which is at ALBERT & CO FRANKVILLE, 128 Frankwell, Shrewsbury SY3 8JX.
We had our inaugural meeting at Frankville on 28th June and will be meeting weekly on Wednesdays for the time being. Do come along for a drink or two and a game of chess.
Morning,
I would like to know how can I be part of the chess club in Shrewsbury.
Thanks
Feel free just to come along on a Friday evening from about 7:30pm. You can try us out and check whether you think you can fit in. Any of the club members there will be happy to give you a game or two and there is no charge for your first season’s visit.

Hi
My friend and I are beginners and looking to join a club. Do you have any space and is there anything we need/need to know?
Many thanks
Jack
Feel free to come along and try things out. The club has its own equipment, so just bring yourselves.
Hello – I am trying to contact any chess player who new Ray (RJA) Cox contemporary of David Everington (fellow pupil of The Priory Boys Grammar School Shrewsbury) – who played for the Shrewsbury A Team and was a former secretary of the club in the early 1970s. Sadly Ray passed away a few days ago. He was still Chess active till his passing – being a formidable postal chess player. I’d like to hear from John Cox, Andrew Glaze or Stephen Hicks if possible. I was a player for only a short time (by the way) also from about 1971-1974 – but have remained in contact with Ray to date.
Ray Cox’s funeral will be held in the Shropshire town of Wem at St Peter & St Paul’s on Thursday 2nd March 2023 at 11.30 am. All are welcome.
