Club Championship Final Round

Controller Matt Best has issued the draw for the 5th and final round of this year’s Shrewsbury Chess Club Championship, the details for which can be viewed on the club championship page of the website.

The crosstable for the tournament can be seen below, and the deadline for these games is Friday 13th June. Finally – a reminder of the tie-break system which may become pertinent:

If it is a tie between two players, then the two players in question would play another game under normal rules with a toss for colours. In the event of that match being drawn, then two 10-minute games, each player being White in one, would be played. If that finished 1-1, then an Armageddon (White has 5 minutes, Black 4 minutes but Black has draw odds) match would be played, with a coin toss again used to determine the colours.

In the event of a tie between three or more players, then a round-robin system of 10 minute games will be used to determine the eventual winner – each player playing the others once with a toss for colours – with an Armageddon match used if two players finished on a level score at the top of the pool. Should all three finish level, an Armageddon play-off will take place with players drawing lots for a bye to the final, while the other two players face each other in a semi-final. These were published previously, Lockett, so pipe down with your allegations!
